Blog Challenge: Cowboys

I have decided to take part in blog challenges. Every week I will randomly choose a number that is attached to subject and do a post on that topic. Callie, Lucy, Sarah, Ali and Gina are also participating, so it should be good!

This week, my topic is cowboys. I had no idea what to write about cowboys because I don't really think about them. They are really of no interest to me and I don't really know much about them, but then I guess that's why it's a challenge.

Cowboys have long been a symbol of the American old west. They are associated with manliness and the rugged outdoors. They are always pictured in cowboy hats and cowboy boots with tight jeans and button shirts, but there is a lot about cowboys that you may not know:

  • Cowboys originated in Spain. The ways of the cowboy was brought to the America's with the conquistadors
  • The word 'cowboy' is derived from vaquero, which is Spanish for 'a person who manages cattle'
  • The cowboys' real purpose is to make men feel inferior for being less manly than they are
  • Cowboys are drunk all the time
  • Cowboys are only second in badassness to ninjas, pirates and baby animals
  • There is a cowboy movie about a mountain that broke it's back that stirred up some controversy due to the unrealistic idea that a mountain has a back
  • Cowboys invented assless leather chaps
  • Cowboys wander aimlessly among the plains yearning for simpler ways of life
  • Contrary to popular belief, cowboys are neither part cow nor part boy
  • One of the village people was a cowboy
  • Country singers try to gain credibility by impersonating cowboys
  • There are cowboys in Canada
  • Cowboys are most often portrayed in pornography
  • Some notable cowboys in history include the following: Zorro, Gumby, That Guy From the Village People, Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, Charles in Charge, Chuck Norris and Jake Gyllenhaal
If you can't tell, this is my pathetic attempt at humor, go with it.

Very educational, I didn't know a lot of that about cowboys. My personal fave is the last pic. That night was legend.

Did they really originate from Spain or was that part of the joke? :S

The first two cowboys facts are indeed very factual. The others are facts that may or may not have been skewed or become untruths...
